Optimise your cabin crew CV resume to pass the ATS at Emirates, Etihad and Qatar
Make a killer custom CV resume and personal statement optimised for ATS - Applicant Tracking System, before you even think of uploading your online application to the Emirates, Etihad and Qatar cabin crew recruitment portal
You have seen your dream job now being advertised at the Emirates, Etihad and Qatar recruitment portal. You are excited that your dream is about to come true, you rushed, applied and uploaded your CV and passport picture that very same day. It is now 4 weeks since your application and you are wondering why your status has not changed and you have not been shortlisted for the next round. Sounds all too familiar, been there before?
Your CV / resume gets scanned into the HR computer application and the software now uses Artificial intetlligence to parse your CV. The software has the ability to reject applicants before a human recruiter even sets eyes on it.
Welcome to this new HR technology called the Applicant Tracking System, or ATS. The ATS are tools for recruites to sift through relevant CVs narrowing down potential ab-initio and new recruits for the airline. It uses an algorithm with keywords set by HR and then grouping them into categories. The CVs with high scores in all the various categories will be shortlisted to the next stage of the recruitment process.
I have put together a guide below of all you need to know about ATS and how to optimise your CV to beat applicant tracking systems used by Emirates, Etihad and Qatar to ensure you get shortlisted with a short timeline.
A well written CV resume must take into account how the ATS algorithm works so that you can obtain a high score.
Having the right content in your resume to get a high ATS score is very important.
You also need to be absolutely certain that the ATS is able to make sense of the details you include and be able to sort it into information that is useful for the recruiter to read.
Just like us humans, the ATS reads your resume from left to right, starting from the top down. Make sure you remember this well.
If you start thinking like an ATS, you will get a highly optimised ATS CV for the airline.
You need to keep your resume looking clean, clear, and simple to score well on an ATS, here’s how…
Choose the keywords. Pick out the keywords that are identified as requirements in the job listing and allocate them to your resume sections and experience sections.
Always show clear hierarchy and formatting. Making your resume look unusual with complex designs and fancy arty layouts will confuse most ATSs.
Stay away from colours. You should note that an ATS is going to read your text as all one colour, any changes in font colour may mean that your text will not get selected by the ATS.
Simplify all formatting. Never confuse the algorithm in the ATS when you use symbols, bar chart representations, logos, text boxes, graphics, photograph of yourself and tables.
Make your bullet points clear. There’s no need for fancy aviation symbols and characters for your bullets. The simple options are best, like a solid circle.
Stick to the most recent information. Anything more than five years old can be skipped. Airline recruiters at Emirates, Etihad and Qatar only want to know about what’s relevant. You are only as good as your current role. Sell yourself well.
Stick to common fonts. It’s better to use standard fonts instead of unusual ones. As a rule of thumb, Times New Roman in size 11 font is best.
Avoid tables and be careful with columns.
Tables generally can’t be read by an ATS, so if you put your key information into a table because you think it looks easier to digest, the ATS isn’t going to be able to “read” your information and feed it into the database.
Also, be careful using columns.
An ATS scans top to bottom, left to right, so not all of them can handle your resume using multi-columns.
If you really need to use columns to get your important details on the first page, write clearly with decent margins and indents.
