A few of you have been on the Final interviews these last few weeks and have mentioned that the recruiter came across as aggressive and some even have said they were under lots of stress with the questions asked.
A stress interview is a technique used to put candidates under extreme pressure. They are designed to test your ability to think on your feet, respond appropriately in difficult situations and stay calm in a pressurised environment. If you go back to the Job description of Emirates, you will see that they want people that can work with demanding schedules, adapt to situations and people.
When recruiters use the stress interview technique, the recruiters are looking to see how you would handle things like workplace conflict, abusive passengers and work overload / long flights. They are intentionally provoking you to assess your psychological and physical responses to stressful situations.
Of late, I noticed that more travel and airline companies are using stress interview techniques to ensure that those that get the GCs have the right positive attitude and emotional capability to handle confrontational passengers.
Intense or probing questions are asked to assess if candidates can think quickly on their feet and problem solve situations independently. The questions are designed to make candidates feel uncomfortable and delivered in a slightly more aggressive manner. Intended to get you angry, confuse and even to upset you. Of course how you react is the most important factor. What they’re looking for in your response is a confidence in your own abilities and to show you are a true professional, able to remain warm and kind, and continue to provide an exceptional service to the passengers.
