Qatar Airways plan for expansion

Qatar Airways has dramatically picked up the pace of flights to destinations in Eastern Europe and the Nordics following a substantial increase in demand for these regions.

Prague, Warsaw and Helsinki in particular have proven to be big sellers. This doubling of flights comes only 8 weeks after the expedited launch of flights to Prague in the Czech Republic, on only the first anniversary of Qatar's first scheduled flights to Helsinki, Finland, and a bit more than a year after it upped the capacity of flights to Warsaw with an Airbus A330 upgrade.

This increase will take the form of new daily Airbus A320s to each destination, starting in mid December to offer 132 extra daily seats in each direction.

If the Czech Republic, Poland or Finland is on your list then 2018 might be your year.

Those flights will be running out of Doha, and at the same time Qatar Airways will also be increasing the number of flights between Australia and Doha, as well as the capacity of each as it rolls out aircraft upgrades.

You can already find daily or regular Qatar flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, but these are set to ratchet up even more as the airline ramps the Adelaide service back up to daily trips on 2 December 2017, and brings in a new daily Canberra-Sydney-Doha on 13 February 2018.

Routes from Australia to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe have been largely insulated from growing competition among airlines, and limited capacity means there's been little need for seat-filling sales.

But with flights ramping up, odds are you're going to start seeing more flight sales for these destinations cropping up from 2018 onwards.

"Qatar Airways is delighted to facilitate this increase in passenger demand by doubling our daily frequencies to the popular destinations of Prague, Warsaw and Helsinki," said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways chief executive.

"In line with our robust and expedited expansion plans, this increase in frequencies will provide even greater choice to our business and leisure passengers, who can connect seamlessly at Hamad International Airport onwards to more than 150 global destinations".

The robust expansion plans by Akbar Al Baker is likely to translate to demand for more cabin crew and we can expect to see recruitment levels following closely to their sales revenue numbers.
