Useful tips for writing your cabin crew cover letter

Emirates, Etihad and Qatar receive thousands of applications every month so how do you ensure that your application stands out?

It is so important that you stand out from the competition. Remember that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Wait 6 months time? Probably unwise to do so. You may meet the same recruiter again who does not have a good impression of your last performance?

We advise that you write a great and impeccable covering letter. We know Etihad requires it. However, even if you are applying for Emirates and Qatar, a cover letter gives you the edge over your competitors.

Covering letters are an ideal opportunity for you to show your motivation for the role and also show them why you are the right person for the role. Sure, your CV may do that but it is insufficient. A cover letter bridges the gap of unanswered questions on your CV. It also shows the recruiter you are able to write well and communicate your ideas and express yourself in a positive manner.

Some of the tips you may wish to take note for your airline cover letter are:

  1. Clarity - Remember to always quote the Job Reference Number - yes, the one that you find on the Emirates, Qatar or Etihad recruitment portal.

  2. Tell them why you? - Wow them, show why you are passionate on the role, explain what interests you in the role, talk about why you are suitable for the role and briefly detail any relevant experience and skills that they are looking for. Do not repeat your CV here so just highlight your key points here.

  3. Give it a compelling look - Always tailor your CV to the specific job. It should not be one standard template. Show your high energy and spirits and how you can add value to Emirates, Etihad or Qatar.

  4. Check all typo errors and grammar - A minor error here could mean your cover letter ends in with an unsuccessful mail.

For cabin crew, always make it a point to highlight your customer service skills.

You are the face of the airline and you want guests to disembark the aircraft with positive impressions of Emirates, Etihad or Qatar through your exceptional and exemplary efforts in the hospitality. Show a short example, whether it is satisfaction surveys, commendations or compliments.

Show your flexibility. One of the requirements in the job description of all three airlines requires you to be professional, calm and handle unexpected situations well. Provide a short example, like offering first aid, dealing with a difficult guest or covering for a sick co-worker.

Put yourself in team context - show your team collaboration and how you shared duties, collaborated as one team to make it a successful flight.
