Your cabin crew Final Interview with Emirates

This article will be useful for those who are about to attend their Final Interview with Emirates.

PREPARATION IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE KEY TO SUCCESS / GOLDEN CALL.

Practice by saying out loud in front of the mirror, check how you come across, and check your body language.

1. Prepare to answer questions about everything you have ever experienced in a customer service based company.

2. You will be asked to give examples of when you have done certain things in past jobs, how you are able to adapt to new cultures and work with people of all different backgrounds, nationalities and cultures. They want to know that you’re going to be able to blend in well at work and not be caught up in work conflict or create one yourself. Each day you will go to work with new people you have never met before and have to work with people from all over the world.

3. When working at Emirates, bear in mind there’s no routine with the job or “work colleagues” so the recruiters want to probe and find out whether you have similar experience or done a similar task in one of the roles on your CV.

4. Please don’t rush straight into answering any question without first gathering your thoughts on the points.

5. Dont forget to breathe (you will be surprised how many of us forget we can actually breathe when we are nervous!!). Then, talk them through slowly - the experience you’ve got and ALWAYS let your personality shine through.

6. As you know that one of the most important phrases that Emirates uses in their job description is “Can adapt to new people, new places and new situations, and must be positive in a team environment dealing with people from many cultures”.

From this mission statement alone, you can ask a hundred questions here. All recent interviews are based on this one line topic. Examples will include:
- conflict or misunderstanding with another colleague.
- team relationships, how you build trust with people that you never met.
- how you take criticism from your team leader or manager.
- how you adapt to difficult situations.
- how you organise yourself.
- how you take feedback from your manager on work performance issues.
- how you handle an irate customer.
- tell me a situation where you had a difficult customer who is not happy, what do you say?
- your experience on dealing with a multi-cultural team.
- worst mistakes made and how you take steps to improve the work.
- how you deal with an uncooperative team colleague.
- how do you communicate a piece of important news to a colleague?
- tell me about a time where you provided an exceptional service?
- what do you think is the most difficult nationality to deal with?
- tell me a time you came across something new you have not handled before and what did you do?

There are hundreds more but you get the idea. Stay with this mission statement and my advice is take time to discover, learn and practise on your own examples and situations that you have come across in your current work environment. Polish your answers and this is the best way to ace the interview. You can’t go to the final interview and expect to wing it with no preparation. Your body language (non verbal communication) is also being recorded by Hirevue and analysed later by the recruiters so please ensure that you allow for that too! Positive body language is as important as your answers!

7. Please do not be “long winded”. You should aim each answer with a brief of what you are going to tell them, then tell them the story, and finish off by saying you have told them the story and what you learnt from it. Do this in under two minutes. You must keep it at high level. They will probe if they want to know more but never go down into a deeper level with your answers. Never assume they want all the intricate details.

8. Take your time with the answers. You are in control of your time and space. Do not feel that you are on borrowed time and you must give the answer quickly.

9. Maintain eye contact after each sentence that you speak and smile. Then pause, before the next one. Do not go like a bullet train, it is not interesting and that is just not how people communicate with each other.

10. Emirates have FIVE SERVICE PERSONALITIES:

Personal,
Thorough,
Considerate,
Pioneering,
Cosmopolitan.
If you can answer the interviewer’s questions showing these personalities in your examples, you will score well.

At work, Emirates crew have to let these personalities shone through throughout the flight, your cabin supervisor or senior crew observes this when you work on board whether it is single or multi-sector!

Best of luck!
